Located at the southern tip of the Baja California peninsula, Cabo San Lucas and San José del Cabo - known as Los Cabos - have a unique landscape created by the contrast between desert mountains, blue sea, and golden sand beaches. San José del Cabo (which is the county seat of Los Cabos) is 20 miles to the east of Cabo San Lucas.

At Land's End, the Arch "El Arco" - a natural rock formation at the juncture of the Sea of Cortez and the Pacific Ocean, has become a well-known landmark in Cabo San Lucas.

Cabo is in the "dry" tropics, experiencing a desert climate, although nearly surrounded by ocean. The nearby water moderates the temperatures, contributing to sunny days with mild temperatures and little rainfall (Cabo enjoys 360 sunny days a year).

History

Cabo's colorful history includes many peoples: ancient Indian Cultures, Spanish missionaries and conquistadors, Dutch and British pirates, French and German settlers, U.S. and other military invaders, as well as modern adventurers, writers, architects, artists and pleasure seekers from around the world.

The signature landmark is "El Arco", a natural stone arch at the southernmost tip of the Baja peninsula in Cabo San Lucas. (Villa del Arco is right across from "El Arco".) This stone arch marks the meeting of the Pacific Ocean and the Sea of Cortéz, each an unpredictable shade of blue or green.

Los Cabos has become one of the top vacation destinations in Mexico. Cabo is a world-renowned destination for marlin sports fishing and is ideal for such water sports as scuba diving and snorkeling, because of the many fish species that abound in the bay. Golf is another major attraction, as every year the area hosts major golf tournaments that attract some of the world's best-known golf professionals. Additionally, Los Cabos is popular for its nightlife with an array of diverse restaurants, bars, and discotheques. Also, Villa del Arco has dinner shows during the week for your enjoyment.

The Concierges at Villa del Arco Beach Resort can give you more information on these activities and help you make reservations.
